Hinge profiles show the information you agreed to show up on your profile during the sign-up process. Personal details, written answers, and photos are alternately presented on each member's profile.
You have to scroll down to the bottom to view every photo and information the Hinge member decided to share. Hinge has introduced a feature to allow you to state your intentions upfront about what you’re looking for in a potential partner.
When editing your dating profile, you are now able to choose one of the following dating goals to be shown on your profile:
- Life partner
- Long-term
- Long-term, open to short-term
- Short-term, open to long-term
- Short-term
- Figuring out my dating goals
Each profile section has a heart, which you can tap to send that member a "like." A hovering "X" icon is always on the bottom left side of each profile, which you can tap if you want to browse the next member.
Most member profiles on Hinge are full of information. Answers from the written prompts are insightful and truly show a member's personality. Hinge members seem to take the time to create and complete their profiles. This could be because they are serious about looking for dates through the app.
You can also add “Video Prompts” and “Prompt Polls” to answer video-specific prompts and publish polls with three unique answers for potential matches to choose from.
Who Liked Me
You can view the members who sent you likes in the heart tab below. If you are a free member, the faces of the members who sent you likes are blurred. You have to browse each profile starting with the most recent one to view all members who liked you.
If you are a premium member, you can view your likes in a grid. You will be able to see their main profile pictures, so you can interact with the members who attract you the most.
We Met
We Met is a new feature of Hinge wherein you privately provide feedback to the Hinge team about your date with a particular match. You can find this feature under the three dots located on any of your matches’ conversation window.
When you choose the We Met option, Hinge will ask if you and that particular match met in real life and how the date went. This helps Hinge recommend better matches and to also encourage you to get off the app.
Dating Intentions
Hinge has added a tool that allows individuals to express their intentions about what they're searching for in a possible companion right away.
With 34% of Hinge members having been in a 'situationship,' Hinge is making it easier than ever to screen out individuals who want different things by placing dating goals front and center.
Video Prompts
Hinge gives you a number of conversation starters that encourages users to open up about their personalities and interests during a video date - more like an ice breaker to help smoothen the virtual date.
Prompt Polls
Users can select from 21 poll prompts such as, “If we won the lottery, let’s spend it on,” “A dream home must include,” and “Two truths and a lie,” among other prompts that aim to spark a connection. After selecting a prompt, the user can type three answers for people to pick.
Roulette-type matchmaking
Hinge uses a roulette-style interface to display the profiles of your match recommendations. Hinge automatically displays your next profile recommendation if you click the "x" button instead of offering a like. If the other person you liked also liked you, Hinge will tell you that you like each other.
Advanced preferences
The filters available to you for screening your matches are determined by the sort of member you are and how much of your profile is filled. You can mark any of your preferences as a dealbreaker, meaning Hinge will not show you matches outside of that range, regardless of how compatible they are.
Comments
Hinge allows you to leave a comment or "like" a photo, video, or profile area. You can also send a rose to express your interest (more on roses later in this Hinge review). If the other person responds to your comment or likes you, you have formed a connection and can begin a dialogue.
Video Date
You can utilize Hinge's video date function anytime after you've matched with someone. When your match's status switches to "Ready," you'll both receive a notification and can arrange the call.
Selfie Verification
Members can choose to verify their identities using this feature, where the platform would ask them to record a video of themselves as an added security measure. The feature will then use machine learning and human staff to compare the video to the uploaded photos with the aim of weeding out fake profiles. Once verified, the member will earn a badge. This, however, is an optional feature.
Relationship Type Tool
This tool will enable users to share what type of relationship they’re after, whether it’s monogamous, non-monogamous, or unsure and still trying to figure out.
Your Turn Limits
Designed to reduce user burnout, Hinge's new feature encourages timely responses and engagement by prompting users to reply or end conversations before interacting with new matches. This approach aims to enhance connection quality and foster more meaningful relationships, with early tests showing a 20% boost in responsiveness.
